How We Began...

Shanel's freeze dried flowers was founded in 1986 by Melany Moore. Melany graduated with a degree in agroecology at U.C. Santa Cruz. Realizing her love for all living things she was drawn to creating the lasting beauty of flowers in dried arrangements. She started from inspirations in her own garden and a wreath maker was born.

In 1989 Melany ventured out and purchased one of the first freeze dried machines in the Silicon Valley. Her specialty became dried bridal bouquets and gift items. Word spread from one happy bride to another and business grew. She opened her first retail shop in 1990.

In 1992 a charming Englishmen, Mick Dudas strode through the shops back door and into Melany's heart. Today they work as a husband and wife team. Mick brings with him a genuine enthusiasm and love of people.
